100sq/ft of fatmat sound deadening for $79.99, on ebay. i've used dynamat every time in the past, but this time i didn't feel like paying for the name. so i did a little research and found fatmat would work perfectly for my future plans. i could of use second skin, dynamat, hushmat, and etc, but i want to find something that would work just as good as the big names for less the price. we all know that the industry is killing the consumer with the ridiculous prices, when it's foil and rubber/asphalt mixture. my only concern was adhesion and smell. the fatmat has a slight asphalt smell, but it's going away.
well, i spent the last two days installing fatmat in all 4 outer door shells and face. the entire trunk (top/bottom) and including the entire rear fenders. i ordered more to do the roof, jams and floor.
the result, is amazing. i have the stock nav with the kicker sub and it now sounds like i just spent $3000+ on a new system. i should know i've spent more in the past.
so this is a must do, for such little $$$ and awesome results.

i'll be finishing the entire roof, floor and firewall this summer. i can't wait to take it all apart. thinking of also running all my wires to setup for my future system.

...and the smell of tar goes away after a few weeks. Really, it does.

How long did it take you to put it in, as in total hours.

it's not that bad and like jackiersrt said, it does go away in a few weeks, faster if you can leave your windows open a majority of the time (garage).

to be honest and i know jackie (jim) will back me up on this, it's not the smell, it's the aches and pains after install, ugh.

The smell isn't that bad. It really does go away in three weeks, but my fingers still ache just thinking about it. All in all, much worth the time and effort. Cabin is quieter and stereo does sound upgraded.

yeah, the roller didn't work as well as my hands and i know what you mean about cut hands, ugh, i remember. my biggest problem was sitting in the damn trunk, what back aches. but like jim said, all the time and pain was worth it in the end.

Nice Job J, I should do that when I get back to the Charger mods this spring. Actually, maybe I should do something similar to the Explorer too.

Kinda of stupid question but how does it hold on?

not stupid at all. It's got a sticky backing, just peel and stick. It's kinda like a decal, except stronger adhesion.

Here is an stupid question. What does it do?

no question is stupid. it kills vibrations and amplifies sound system. it also cuts out exterior noise and makes the area feel and sound solid.

ive always toyed with systems and ive never used dynamat. but my friend has he swears it makes a differance in his BMW 330i (2 - 12's W6) but idk i dont notice any but maybe cause i never heard it before. Im thinking about putting another mojo in my car is just the trunk and around the speakers good ? or is your just overkill :D

I'd say put it where ever you've got bass. If it's in the trunk, then you want to do as much as possible, including the decklid.

a lot of bass in just about ALL vehicles will rattle at the decklid, so it's probably the most important area to cover.
